Sharon Sliger Brown
For more than 27 years, Sharon Sliger Brown has served as an Award-Winning State Farm Insurance agent in McMinn County. However, it has been her giving nature which has helped make her and her county standout.
Among the numerous organizations Brown assists with throughout the year, she serves as the Chair of the McMinn County School Board, as well as serves on the Board of Directors for the McMinn Education Foundation, the Imagination Library, The Hope Center, and the 10th Judicial District Children’s Advocacy Center. In addition to these ventures, Brown has also served on the United Way McMinn-Meigs Board of Directors. As Co-Chair of her local United Way in 2009, she helped raise $640,000. In 2007, Brown was named McMinn County’s Business and Professional Woman of the Year.
She made her mark early with her push for women’s collegiate basketball at Cleveland State Community College. Thanks in part to the request of Brown and her classmates to former CSCC President L. Quentin Lane, Cleveland State launched its first women’s basketball program. Brown would play on the inaugural team which would finish seventh in the nation. Brown also played basketball on Middle Tennessee State University’s first-ever women’s basketball program, as well.
For her service to county and state, Brown would be honored in 2017 by the Tennessee House of Representatives for her outstanding service to her community. Sharon and her husband, Rick, have two sons, Justin and Grant, and one daughter, Leah, as well as seven grandchildren.
