Secondary Supervisor, Meigs County High Schools, Decatur, TN

Having been born and raised in Meigs County, Carmen Choat is living out her lifelong goal of giving back to the community that has given so much to her. She not only wears the title of Secondary Supervisor for Meigs County Schools, but also the Director of College and Career Access. She is always putting the needs of the Meigs County High School students above all as she continues to push them to see what their true potential is. She has helped raise their graduation rates and has created a culture that going to college is an option. She continues to go above and beyond to make sure that every student has been given that opportunity. Not a single student can graduate from MCHS without saying she has helped them get to that point.

Choat always takes it upon herself to make sure every student has taken the necessary steps to be ready for college, whether that be through completing their FAFSA application, Tennessee Promise application, college application, etc. She also makes sure that every student has the opportunity to take at least one college level class while in high school through dual enrollment and has even budgeted to make sure every student has their math lab fee taken care of so that is not a burden to the student.

She and her husband, Kevin, are members of First Baptist Church of Decatur. They have four children, Austin, Anniston, Madeline and Mikayla.
